Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America Head, Archbishop Demetrios, expressed his anguish for the latest developments in Greece during his recent contacts with Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and U.S. President Barack Obama.
His Eminence Archbishop Dimitrios of America sent a letter to President Obama on Tuesday, thanking him for his continuous support to Greece during the financial crisis and invited him to intensify his efforts toward all sides, in order for Europe to overcome its differences and reach an agreement.
Furthermore, the Archbishop, on his own initiative, contacted Pavlopoulos to whom he expressed his own personal agony, as well as the Greek Diaspora‘s feelings in regards to the economic deadlock in their birthplace.
During their talk, Archbishop Demetrios urged Pavlopoulos to make great efforts to preserve unity among all political forces so that Greece can overcome its growing financial hurdles.
His Eminence stressed that it is inconceivable for Greece to exit the Eurozone because in reality Greece is not just a part of Europe; according to him, Greece gave birth to Europe, offered a name for it and introduced the wealth of democracy, culture, arts, science and respect.
